Alcohol Prep Pads

Research Overview

Alcohol Prep Pads are a laboratory consumable supplied by BME Health as part of the research accessories range. Each pad is saturated with 75% ethanol alcohol and sealed in its own foil pouch, so the pad stays saturated until the pouch is opened and each pad is used once and discarded. The box contains 100 individually wrapped pads and carries a CE mark. In a research setting these pads are used to wipe down the rubber septum of a vial before it is accessed, to clean the exterior of closures and stoppers, and to wipe work surfaces and instrument exteriors between handling steps. They are supplied strictly as a general-purpose consumable for external use — not as a medical device, not for human or animal application, and not for use in any clinical or therapeutic procedure.

A 70–75% alcohol solution is the concentration range most widely referenced in laboratory handling literature for surface wiping, because the presence of water in the solution is what allows the alcohol to act on surface contaminants rather than evaporating immediately. Single-use, individually sealed pads are preferred over bulk-poured alcohol in documented handling protocols because each pad is used once, which removes the cross-contamination pathway that a shared container or reused wipe introduces. Wiping the septum of a vial and allowing it to air dry before the vial is accessed is standard practice referenced in aseptic-technique guidance for laboratory work.
